“Hey, how’s about this…”
Published by grey May 19th, 2004 in posts Tags: DVD, fantasy baseball, greybean.com, movies.Hey, how’s about this: I actually have some movie news for the first time in, uhh, nine months or something. Movie news on this new version of the site will (intentionally) appear sporadically at best and only when bits of info seem particularly interesting to me. The general interest stuff that I used to put up on the old site is available all over the internet and I’ll let you find it on your own. Having said that…
First I should note that there is finally a real trailer for Pixar’s The Incredibles up on apple.com. Also, Michael Mann’s Collateral looks very interesting. And there’s a new trailer for Alex Proyas’s I, Robot, and I really think it looks like it might be good. I’m definitly curious.
Beyond that, I’ve got some DVD news. This is from the Rumor Mill at thedigitalbits.com:
Also this morning, I imagine by now many of you have seen the altered Return of the Jedi DVD screen shot posted yesterday over on Ain’t it Cool News. While some sources are still hedging their bets… yes, we can confirm that this is authentic. It IS one of many changes that are being made to the original Star Wars films for the September 21st DVD release.
We’ve been saying for months now that there were going to be changes made to these films for DVD, and while many believed us, a number of Star Wars fans have e-mailed to say we must be on crack. Nevertheless, believe it or not, we know for a FACT that several more changes are being made to these films. Trust us on this - our contacts are in positions to know. Like it or not, the films we will get on DVD on 9/21 are NOT going to be the original theatrical versions and they’re not going to be the 1997 special editions either. Even Lucasfilm’s Steve Sansweet has confirmed this, saying at the recent WonderCon convention that the films contained on the discs would be the incarnations of the films "as George Lucas sees them today."
It’s gonna get mighty interesting in the months ahead, folks.
thedigitalbits.com is also reporting that Eddie Murphy: Raw will street on 9/07/2004 and that October will see the release of D.A.R.Y.L., The Untouchables: Special Collector’s Edition and separate releases of The Godfather, Part II and The Godfather, Part III. And why, exactly, is there a National Security: Special Edition coming out on 7/06/2004??
Oh, and I almost forgot… they have also posted the cover art for Knight Rider: Season One (streets 8/03/2004). Awesome.
DVDFILE.COM has this one bit of information that I find worth reprinting:
Quentin Tarantino’s bloody, bravura ode to Asian chop socky films concludes in Kill Bill Vol. 2, which will make its DVD debut on August 10th. Although Tarantino is planning a mega-set of both films for release sometime in the future, for now Buena Vista Home Entertainment will give the flick a fairly slim edition, complete with anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 tracks, "The Making of Kill Bill Vol. 2" featurette, premiere party footage, deleted scenes and trailers. Retail will list for $29.95.
One last thing which I have to put up here for Alisia’s mom. This is from Dark Horizons‘ breakdown of ABC’s new fall lineup:
Fleet Street: The Practice (10pm/9pm (c), Sundays)
From Executive Producer/Writer David E. Kelley comes this new series utilising members of the cast of the reinvigorated last season of The Practice which bounced back into a big hit for the network thanks primarily to James Spader’s dynamic Alan Shore lead character. In Fleet, Alan Shore and Denny Crane lead the brigade of high-priced civil litigators in an upscale Boston law firm in a series focusing on the professional and personal lives of brilliant, but often emotionally-challenged, attorneys. Fast-paced, darkly comedic, the series will confront social issues, moral conscience, safe sex, pursuit of happiness and money, with varying degrees of priority. Escape to the law firm on One Fleet Street.—where anything goes… and often will. Stars James Spader, William Shatner, Rhona Mitra, Lake Bell.
For those of you who’re interested, the Scottish Bugs roster on this page has been updated to reflect this week’s many changes. Gone are Johnny Damon, Ted Lilly, Rafael Betancourt, and Jeff Weaver. In are J. D. Drew, Mark Buerhle, Oliver Pérez and Cliff Lee. I’ll be keeping an eye on Weaver. There’s a good pitcher in there somewhere. In fact, for the sake of argument, in his last four starts he pitched 27 innings for an ERA of 3.67 with 24 strikeouts. The problem is that he only won one of those games and I can’t wait around for him to get consistent right now. Oh, well.
