This is greybean.com version 5.0 (codename: keaton).
The live redesign is currently 8% complete.
Okay, a couple quick things:
1. The Yankees freaking stink. I guess that’s pretty apparent, however.

2. Gary Sheffield should a.) have been ejected from that game in Boston and b.) definitely be suspended. It appears as though neither of those things are going to happen, however. Here’s the thing: Sheffield’s job in that situation is to do absolutely nothing. Walk away. Not shove the guy off of him. Walk away. Regardless of what the guy did. As long as Sheffield isn’t in danger of being severely injured (which was certainly not the case as the guy was no longer in contact with him) he needs to walk away and let security handle it. There is no situation where a player should ever act violently toward a fan. That and betting on games are the two most serious infractions against the game that a player can make. Frank Francisco, the Texas reliever who threw a chair at a fan last year, should’ve been permanently banned from the game. As should Ron Artest and Jermaine O’Neal and every other player who laid a hand on anyone in the stands that night be permanently banned from the NBA. I don’t understand how more people don’t feel that way.
Not incidentally, Sheffield shoved the fan with the ball. Isn’t that a dead ball and the end of the play? It’s tantamount, I would think, to a throwing error on Sheffield’s part and all runners should advance one base. I don’t get how that got missed, either.
3. The Scottish Bugs are off to a pretty decent start. 8-1-1 last week against Elliott’s team, Ball Smackers. 3-6-1 this week after a pretty remarkable comeback from Nick’s team, The Munson Flyers, who, by the way, are probably the best team in the league (with the possible exception of Mingione’s team), at least so far. The beanies were 5-3-2 last week and 3-7 this week. The ‘Bugs are tied for third in the league, ½ a game behind Mingione’s Team, Bootleg Movies and The Munson Flyers. The beanies are in sixth, 3½ games back.
Here’re the George’s Baseball League standings going into week three:
W L T PCT GB
Bootleg Movies 12 7 1 .625 --
The Munson Flyers 12 7 1 .625 --
BlatchelyAve Bombers 11 7 2 .600 ½
Scottish Bugs 11 7 2 .600 ½
Silvestres Team 12 8 0 .600 ½
beanies 8 10 2 .450 3½
Lachoviczs Lunatics 6 13 1 .350 6
Ball Smackers 3 16 1 .200 9
4. One of the biggest reasons I’m glad that the six early-season Yankees/Red Sox games are over is that I no longer have to watch those terrible NESN HD broadcasts of the games. Two channel sound, SD graphics, stretched commercials and pre- and post-game shows… Good lord. Comcast should’ve opted for the YES HD broadcasts just because they better utilize the technology regardless of which deal was in place first, blah, blah. Also, I’m sick of NESN and YES HD broadcasts preempting INHD broadcasts of out-of-market games. Can we just get another channel or two to show the NESN and YES games on, puh-lease?
